Origin Omni Is a Fully Upgradeable Gaming All-in-One
LAS VEGAS - If there's one consistent trend I've noticed at CES, it's
that desktop makers are finding ways to cram high-end desktop
components into seemingly impossible places. Take the new Origin Omni,
for example, which is a fully upgradeable gaming all-in-one that packs
some of the most powerful processors and graphics cards available
beneath its curved, 34-inch display.
I got to spend some time with the Omni, launching later this year for an estimated $1,999, and I like what I see so far.
You wouldn't be crazy for thinking the Omni is simply a really big
gaming monitor at first glance. The machine's 34-inch, 3440 x 1440
display is very pretty, and carries very little bulk in its backside
considering the powerful hardware within. I played a few minutes of Call
of Duty: Black Ops 3 on the PC, and was impressed by both how smoothly
the game ran, as well as how useful its ultra-wide resolution is for
spotting enemies hiding off in the corners.

While I loved staring at the Omni's ultra-sharp screen, I was even more stunned once I saw all of the components hiding behind the machine's back panel. This all-in-one's spec sheet reads like that of a dedicated gaming tower, supporting up to an Intel Core i7 5960X processor, up to 32GB of RAM and up to Nvidia's Titan X (yes, Titan X) for graphics as well as Origin's Frostbyte liquid cooling.
Better yet, the Omni is fully upgradeable, leaving you free to switch
its GPU and RAM as you would on a standard desktop. There's even a
handy USB port at the very top for swapping in whichever webcam you
prefer to use.
The Omni is just one of several PCs that are out to prove that all-in-one owners don't have to settle for second-rate performance. Maingear's newly announced Alpha 34 ($1,999 starting) has nearly identical specs and similar upgradeability, while MSI's Gaming 27XT (pricing TBD) packs a special enclosure on the back that lets you add in a desktop GPU.
We're excited to see how this new crop of high-end gaming all-in-ones stack up against each other when they launch later this year.
